Donations
Porter Academy wishes to thank all of our patrons for their generous contributions to our school since our inception in 2000. Our success and growth have been made possible by contributions from people like you.
Our teaching techniques require a smaller class size with more individual attention and multi-sensory techniques that require more materials and more space than traditional classrooms. These techniques allow these children to experience success, and in turn develop self-confidence and skills that serve as a foundation for life-long learning.
- Tax Credit: The Georgia Private School Tax Credit law allows eligible private citizens and corporations to receive tax credits for donations to Georgia Student Scholarship Organizations (SSOs). Tax credit means that the amount donated will be deducted from state taxes owed (or refunded if you paid state taxes throughout the year). Your contributions will provide student scholarships for children who need a school like Porter Academy to be successful, but, without your help, would be unable to afford the cost of a private education.
Please take the following steps to complete your Tax Credit contribution:
1) Print the GA state tax credit pre-approval form, complete it, and mail it to the GA Department of Revenue at 1800 Century Blvd NE Suite 8301 Atlanta, GA 30345.
2) Once the GA Department of Revenue approves the form, you will receive a notification letter letting you know that there is still money available and that you may proceed with your contribution.
3) At this point, you write a check to Great SSO for the amount you would like to contribute and write "Porter Academy" in the memo section of your check. Below outlines the amount that the state will credit for various contributors:
- Married couples can be credited up to $2500
- Individuals up to $1000
- S corps and LLC corps up to $2500
- C Corps up to 75% of their GA tax debt
- Mail a copy of the notification letter and your check to Great SSO, Inc. at 1595 Peachtree Parkway Suite 204-128 Cumming, GA 30041
- Report it on your tax return and receive the full amount back
- Annual Fund: The annual fund closes the gap between the income generated by tuition and fees and the operating costs. We encourage everyone to participate. 100% participation from families, staff, and board members increases the likelihood of receiving grants from foundations. Strong support from the Porter Academy community is a vote of confidence, a sign that parents and Board members support the school and its mission.
- Capital Campaign: The purpose of the Capital Campaign is to furnish building renovations and new facilities that do not come out of tuition payments or the annual fund. We expanded our facilities during the Summer of 2010 and hope to continue expanding to include more classrooms and a gymnasium/multipurpose room in the near future.
- Matching Gifts: There are over 200 companies that will match any donation given by one of their employees to a non-profit organization. Please check with your human resource department to see if your company donates matching funds to non-profit organizations. If so, they will provide you with paperwork that you can turn in to Porter Academy and we will complete the process for you.
