Science & Social Studies
Intro
Science and Social Studies at Porter Academy share the same instructional approach. Both are taught in larger groups — a deliberate choice that gives students real experience learning in this type of setting, building the collaborative, larger-group learning skills they’ll need as they move toward more traditional classroom environments. Each homeroom follows the grade-level Core Knowledge Curriculum, matched to what’s developmentally appropriate for that group, and reinforced through reading and hands-on, experiential learning activities and projects rather than lecture alone.
